Technology
VA Electrolytic Filtration Technology
- A controllable ammonia removal system using electrolysis.
Verde Aqua has adapted water treatment technologies used for a long time in swimming pools and bathing facilities for aquaculture, developing a compact, controllable filtration system (patented).
This technology is designed for recirculating aquaculture system (RAS), minimizing wastewater and operating independently of environmental factors like weather.
The key feature of this filtration system is its ammonia removal process, which does not rely on bacteria. Instead, it uses seawater electrolysis to chemically break down ammonia, allowing automatic filtration control based on ammonia levels. This ensures consistent water quality, contributing to stable aquaculture operations.
With multiple advantages that complement the weaknesses of biological filtration, VA Electrolytic Filtration also can be used selectively at different growth stages of fish or combined with biological filtration for enhanced efficiency.
No need for bacterial startup
Unlike biological filtration, which requires time to establish nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria before introducing fish, this system is ready from the day it is installed.
Controllable filtration levels
By adjusting the electrical current based on feed input (i.e., ammonia production), filtration levels can be fine-tuned, effectively responding to sudden water quality deterioration.
Minimizing off-flavour risk
The system is designed to prevent the production of off-flavour* commonly found in farmed fish, thus producing odourless fish products.
*Off-flavour is caused by geosmin and 2-MIB, compounds produced by algae and micro-organisms in biological filtration systems.
Filtration performance independent of temperature
The efficiency of ammonia removal remains unchanged regardless of water temperature, allowing the same filtration system to support a wide range of fish species from cold-water to warm-water environments.
Water clarity
The system preserves high transparency even in long closed-loop operations. It is therefore highly friendly to automatic feeding systems and camera-based fish monitoring.
Space-saving design
It is more compact than conventional set-ups because it does not require a denitrification process and the filtration process is simplified compared to biological filtration.
Product
RAS with VA Electrolytic Filtration System
Our land-based aquaculture system using VA Electrolytic Filtration can use artificial seawater and requires very little water replacement, making it suitable for any location. We offer filtration units that can accommodate water volumes from 3 to 120 tons per unit, designed to fit your available space.
In addition to filtration, we work with our partners to provide complete system solutions, including tanks, mechanical filtration, heating/cooling systems and other necessary components. We design the system based on your specific requirements, including fish species, water volume, feed input and space.
